Locate the gas cap. Depending on the configuration of the boat, the gas tank will be located at either the port side rear near the transom or directly at the nose of the bow.
2Insert the metal studs at the end of the gas cap key into the holes in the gas cap. The gas cap key is a 2-inch long piece of chrome-plated brass. The studs at either end of the gas cap key are approximately 1/4-inch in diameter and protrude down 3/8-inch from the body of the key. Unscrew the gas cap from the threads in the fuel inlet, counterclockwise. .
3Lift the gas cap off the fuel inlet when it comes loose, completing the removal of the gas cap on a 1989 Bayliner Quantum boat.
Tips & WarningsKeep the gas cap key with the ignition key on a key float. This way you will always have the gas cap key when operating the boat.
Keep a spare ignition key and gas cap key on a key float in another location on the boat in case one set goes overboard and cannot be retrieved.
If all keys to the gas cap are lost, a new key can be obtained from any Bayliner dealer.
