Turn off the car and engage the parking brake. Open the hood and disconnect the negative battery terminal.
Remove the four plastic caps that cover the screws on either side of the center console. There are two on each side. They are located near the gas pedal and under the glove box.
Remove the screws and place the screws and caps in a small container. Pull off the plastic center console side panels and set the container aside.
Grab the trim piece that surrounds the climate control knobs and pull it outward to remove it.
Remove the ashtray and cup holder assembly in the center console. It simply lifts out of the socket.
Unscrew the two screws underneath and place them in a different container. These screws hold the plastic fascia covering the sides of the stereo.
Slide the seats forward and pull the back of the seat forward. You will find one screw on either side of the lower part of the center console. Remove the screws and place them in another container.
Lift the lower part of the center console up and out. If you have an automatic, it's easiest to place the gearshift knob in the neutral position.
Remove the four screws surrounding the old radio and place them in the last container. If you have an aftermarket single DIN stereo, there may be two screws instead of four.
Slide the old radio out of the socket and remove the retention brackets from the side. They are held in place by two screws on either side.
Unplug the connection to the back of the stereo and plug the wiring harness into the connector. Plug the connector for your new stereo into the harness.
Install the spacer according to the manufacturer's instructions if you are installing a single DIN unit.
Reverse the steps to reassemble the dashboard.
Tips & WarningsIf you do not have a wiring harness, it is possible to remove the existing harness from the stock radio. This renders the stock radio inoperative. Cut the harness off using wire cutters and strip approximately one-half inch of coating from the ends of the wires. Follow the stereo manufacturer's wiring schematics for attaching the wiring to the connector that comes with the stereo.
If you are currently using an aftermarket single DIN stereo and installing a double DIN unit, you must remove the spacer. Depending on how the spacer was installed, you may need to cut it out with a handsaw.
